Veteran and Military Affiliated Financial Aid
Veteran and military affiliated students may be eligible for benefits through both the Federal and State Departments of Veterans Affairs. These benefits and scholarships can be applied to the costs associated with attending Xavier University including tuition and fees, room and board, or even other living expenses. In addition to all of the benefits and scholarships outlined below, all students should also fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each academic year as there may be other need based programs available as well. Federal VA Benefits
Post 9/11 G.I. Bill® - Chapter 33
The Post 9/11 G.I. Bill® is the most common VA Education Benefit in use at Xavier. When using this benefit the Veteran and Military Family Center works directly with the VA to receive payment for tuition and fees. Students receive a book stipend and housing allowance at the end of each month that they are enrolled in classes. Eligibility for the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill® is determined by time in active duty service, 36 months of active duty service earns 100% of the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill®.
Yellow Ribbon Program
If eligible for 100% of the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill®, you are also qualified to participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program. The Yellow Ribbon Program covers any tuition and fee costs that exceed the max amount paid by the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill®.
Transfer of Educational Benefits
The Post 9/11 G.I. Bill® allows for the benefit to be transferred to eligible dependents.

Veteran Readiness and Employment - Chapter 31
The Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program is another common VA Education Benefit in use at Xavier. When using this benefit the Veteran and Military Family Center works directly with the VA to receive payment for tuition and fees. Students receive a book and supply voucher for all required materials for classes that they are enrolled in. Eligibility for the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program is based upon the Veterans disability and need.

Dependents' Educational Assistance - Chapter 35
This benefit may apply to a dependent spouse or child—or the surviving spouse or child—of a Veteran or service member who has a disability rating assigned to them by the Federal VA. It pays a stipend of approximately $1000.00 per month for the months the student is enrolled in classes.

The Montgomery G.I. Bill® can help Veterans or service members pay for education and training programs. If you’ve served at least 2 years on active duty you may qualify for the Montgomery G.I. Bill.

Montgomery G.I. Bill Select Reserve - Chapter 1606
The Montgomery G.I. Bill® Selected Reserve program offers up to 36 months of education and training benefits. If you’re a member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard, or Air National Guard, you may be eligible for this benefit.
VA Work Study Program
Students who are actively utilizing a VA Education Benefit are eligible to apply for a VA Work Study position in the Veteran and Military Family Center. Positions span the length of the academic year and carry a range of responsibilities.

Federal Military Tuition Assistance
The Department of Defense Federal Military Tuition Assistance program provides financial assistance to service members for voluntary off-duty education programs in support of professional and personal self-development goals. Federal Military Tuition Assistance is available for courses that are offered in the classroom or by distance learning and are part of an approved academic degree or certificate program. Service members wishing enroll at Xavier University should first contact their service branch Educational Services Officer.
State of Ohio VA Benefits
Ohio War Orphan & Severely Disabled Veterans' Children Scholarship Program
The Ohio War Orphan & Severely Disabled Veterans' Children Scholarship Program awards tuition assistance to the children of deceased or severely disabled Ohio veterans who served in the armed forces during a period of declared war or conflict.

Xavier University Veteran and Military Affiliated Scholarships
David Joyce Scholarship
In the summer of 2020, GE Aviation President and CEO David Joyce announced his retirement. While Joyce’s 12-year tenure as President and CEO is known for leadership and innovation, his contribution to military affiliated students at Xavier University will live on forever. To honor Joyce’s vision, an annual scholarship has been created in his name. Xavier offers 24 scholarships of $2,000 per semester for any GE Aviation employee or employee's dependent with preference for veteran or military affiliated status. The first scholarships were distributed in fall 2021.

Emily Barbero Memorial Veterans Scholarship
Emily Barbero graduated from Xavier University in 2008 and forged a distinguished career in government service, which led to her role as Branch Chief/Deputy Chief Data Officer for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Emily loved Xavier, as it was the foundation for her professional successes and personal happiness. She also loved growing up in a Military Family and always found ways to help Veteran causes throughout her life. The Emily Barbero Memorial Scholarship will be awarded each year to a veteran or military-affiliated student who is pursuing a degree in either of the following distinct Honors Programs:
